Which one player would you choose for Togo?

Togo has a nucleus of several European-based players who will form the backbone of the team for World Cup 2006. Having said that, the team isn’t exactly brimming over with crowd pleasing talent. If you could pick one player in the world, to play for Togo throughout World Cup Germany, who would it be?

Here are some of my picks:

Zinedine Zidane – Getting older and slower, but with all that athletic talent around him he should still be able to create some kind of order. Togo lack a mid field general and Zidane could work.

Spicy Beckham – Functionally useless for 99% of the game, he could function as ‘girlfriend’ for one of the homesick players during the month in Germany. On the occassion of free-kick, that famous right foot might just grab Togo a goal.

Wayne Rooney – I’m no big fan of his, but he can kick a ball in a straight line. Possession in football should be converted into shots on goal, some of which hopefully will be goals. Togo’s shooting can be erratic and wasting the precious chances can’t be allowed to happen.

Joe Cole – Maybe some of the guys on the team don’t like blondes. Here’s a cute little brunnette for them to terrorize.

Diego Maradona – He may be 45 with a heart the strength of Swatch watch, but his reputation, not to mention his ball jugging skills and fake black hair might distract the opponents long enough for the remaining 10 Togo players to figure out where the other goal is.

That’s just my thoughts.
