Togo is coastal and seafood features in the national diet. Fish fingers shipped from Britain, stored in deep freezes and are popular. The way they are prepared depends on the occassion, but commonly they are deep fried in 6 month old oil and dipped delicately in regurgitated unripe mango. Further north the diet changes to suit the arid conditions. Wildebeest bbq is common whenever someone can throw a spear hard enough to kill one. On other occassions locals rely on one of the 26 different receipes for cooking desert cactus. The Togo desert cactus is often psychotropic and that contributes to the ‘inate creativity’ of the football played in that region.
