Togo beats Lichtenstein in World Cup warm up

June 2nd, 2006 | By: Nick O'Neill | 2 Comments »

Togo has beaten Lichtenstein 1-0 in a World Cup warm up game at Rheinpark Stadion in Lichtenstein. Coach Otto Pfister actually told his Togo team they were playing Germany, and the Sparrow Hawks were ecstatic at full time.

Togo’s scorer, striker Kadar Mohamed, pounced in the 55th minute and Togo never looked back. If they can maintain this level of play they might give Korea a game.

Maybe better not to tell them, that the principality of Liechtenstein has just 34,500 inhabitants.

Nick, you don’t mean that, right? The part about if they play this way, they’ll give Korea a hard time!?

Without offence to our neighbours Lichtenstein, who have made considerable progress in the past few years and held Portugal and Slovakia to draws at home (plus beating Luxembourg twice) – nevertheless: you you want to play a half-way decent WC, you must run all over Lichtenstein (we’ll see how the Aussies do in a few days).

You know, Togo has often been named as this WCs weakest team…and more and more, I tend to believe it.
