Togo: Among many talented countries W. African football
Sepp Blatter, President of FIFA once said that an African team will win the World Cup someday. Looking at a map of Africa, one can see a tight little knot of countries, that have produced good teams and great players over the last 10 years. Starting with Senegal in the far west, a team that did very well in the last World Cup, threatening to make the semi’s. Heading east we have Liberia, home of former World Player of the Year, George Weah. Cote D’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) is next and they just made it to the final of the African Nations Cup, losing to Egypt.
Ghana, another World Cup qualifier is next, followed by TOGO. Skipping Benin, we come to 2 African powerhouses not in this year’s World Cup Finals, Nigeria and Cameroon.
The European leagues are reaping the benefit of the talent produced in these countries and maybe one day a single country can get it all together in the World Cup.
