Rudderless Togo keen to hire Schaefer

June 12th, 2006 | By: Nick O'Neill | 2 Comments »

Togo, the only World Cup team without a manager, are keen to hire former Cameroon coach Winfried Schaefer. You’ll remember this guy from the last World Cup, for his ‘Abba-like’ hairdo.

One can only feel sorry for Togo fans, this is probably their first and only appearance in the World Cup, and the players are on the verge of mutiny over pay. Gone are the days when players were just happy to play in the World Cup, even those from developing countries. The massive amount of cash sloshing around in world soccer these days and turned many into greedy little bitches, who see the sport and the tournament as a fast track to wealth.

Schaefer has not made up his mind yet and assistant-coach Kodjovi Mawuena, is stand in coach for now. Togo’s first game is against S.Korea on June 13th.

Too much money has spoiled the sport - agreed! But why should the Togo players play for a bowl of fufu, when the FTF bosses have their sticky fingers up to their elbows in the FIFA money pots??
