Profile of Togo fans
Togo fans are passionate about their football and come dressed in their local teams colors. Red paste made from betel nut and the blood of an enemy are smeared around the face in stripes indicating one’s level of commitment. A string of shells or birds claws often adorn the necklaces worn, and a 4 foot high head piece featuring ostrich hair, bird of paradise feathers and a photo of David Beckham crown the whole thing off.
Accessories are nothing new to the ardent Togo football fan. Spears, choppers, killing sticks and shields are waved and thrown throughout the game and after a goal its a virtual mayhem of color, violence and fun.
