Hawks Grounded by Money Dispute

January 18th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

Usually when I fly I am happy when I get an extra bag of peanuts. Togo’s players apparently want that and a little bit more…$40,000 more.

The Hawks’ players are refusing to fly to Egypt ahead of their African Nations Cup games as part of a high stakes game of cat and mouse with the Togo Football Federation. The players want to be paid $40k to represent their country at the CAN. The Federation wants to give them $20k.

“They were asking for the money for qualifying for the African Cup of Nations – as some kind of morale booster,” Togo coach Stephen Keshi told BBC Sport.

Yes, greed always does wonders for my morale too. That and an extra bag of peanuts.
