Adebayor Threatens to Leave CAN

January 21st, 2006 | By: WC Bob | No Comments »

Togo striker Sheyi Adebayor says that he is done playing for Togo in the African Nations Cup. The young forward did not start Saturday’s match against Congo because of a reported stomach bug. Turns out the only think sick is his ego.

“This morning I said to Adebayor that he wouldn’t play because he hadn’t played in a long time and because he had spent the last week sorting out his contract with Arsenal,” explained Togo coach Stephen Keshi. “Just before the game, I told him I was putting him in the team and then he said he didn’t want to play.”

Seeing a pattern here? Adebayor was sent packing from his club team Monaco for failing to show up for numerous practices. Got to think that Arsenal might be worried a bit about forking over money for someone who clearly lacks discipline and/or heart.

Maybe the guy just isn’t interested in playing football, but given the unemployment rate in Togo he should think long and hard about a career change.
